Kervan Saray Beach Resort (Swahili Divers)- Budget

In the far north of Pemba, a new concept in adventure and hospitality has been created. After eight years of operating in Chake Chake, the capital of Pemba, Swahili Divers has moved its operation to an idyllic spot on the beach close to the village of Makangale. Kervan Saray Beach is not a flight of fancy.
The Kervan Saray Beach is the palace of rest. The latest concept in Indian Ocean Island hospitality, born from the dive company Swahili Divers, the Kervan Saray draws upon over a decade of experience diving, anthropology and hospitality. While this hotel is the newest in Pemba, it houses the most experienced and long standing recognised dive centre in Pemba.
Each room has a double bed and a single bed and an attached washroom.  Our mattresses are imported from Kenya, our bed sheets and mosquito nets are the finest Indian cotton.  Each room has a shower that provides luke-warm water that is solar heated using an African Village system. On cloudy days the water is cool.   Our rooms are exceptionally simple, built using only local materials with thatched roofs.  Electricity is provided by generator from 6pm to 6am in the rooms, and in the office during the day. Guests are very welcome to use a large bank of plugs to recharge laptops, satellite phones and digital cameras.  Where possible we use inverters and batteries.
The wonderful cook is adept at cooking on charcoal and with the limited resources that Pemba once had.  Happily the markets in Pemba are now bustling with fresh produce from the Usambara Mountains in mainland Tanzania. Our meat ranges from locally sourced products to imported meat from around the globe. Our fish varies from season to season. This is all line caught and dependent upon the luck of our local fishermen.
Activities:   PADI 5* Gold Palm dive centre / Satellite & radio phones available / Internet.
Facilities:  Diving / kayaking / cycle / bird watching / guided walks in the forest / excursions to the coastal Swahili villages.
